About Sarla Aviation:
Sarla Aviation is not just an aerospace startup; we are pioneers in the sky, dedicated to revolutionizing urban air mobility with our innovative Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (EVTOL) aircraft. Join us in our quest to transform the future of flight, driven by a relentless passion for sustainable transportation solutions. As part of our team, you will not just take on challenges; you will push the boundaries of engineering, technology, and customer experience, working towards something that has never been.
About the role:
As a Senior Airframe Stress Engineer, you will play a key role in defining and validating the structural integrity of our clean-sheet eVTOL aircraft. Working from first principles and early architecture choices, you will drive structural substantiation efforts through design, prototyping, testing, and into serial production. This is a high-impact technical role, ideal for someone with deep analytical expertise and a passion for novel airframe structures.
Key responsibilities:
- You'll work directly to contribute to the foundational airframe architecture.
- Conduct preliminary sizing studies during concept development
- Drive structural analysis across the full aircraft, from conceptual sizing to detail stress and testing.
- Build and manage advanced Finite Element Models to evaluate load paths, structural margins, and overall airframe performance.
- Act as a technical approver for structural analyses, stress reports, and drawing release packages.
- Guide certification activities, advising on compliance strategies.
- Support structural trade studies, optimization efforts, and design reviews with cross-functional teams.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors/Masters or Ph.D. in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.
- 5+ years of experience with aircraft structures.
- Deep understanding of load paths, joint design, margin assessment, and structural substantiation techniques.
- Proven experience in structural analysis of aircraft primary structures, ideally within eVTOL, UAV, or advanced aircraft programs.
- Strong background in composite and metallic structures, with full-aircraft perspective.
- Broad exposure across the product lifecycle - from clean-sheet to Prototyping to serial production.
- Fluency with FEA tools ideally Simcenter but can be NASTRAN, Hyperworks, Abaqus, or Ansys.
- Proficient in 3D CAD tools, preferably Siemens NX or equivalent
- Knowledge of fatigue, damage tolerance, crashworthiness, and impact analysis is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of structural testing methods (coupon, sub-component, full-scale)
- Familiarity with aerospace certification frameworks (CS-23, SC-VTOL, Part 23).
- Ability to work independently or with minimum supervision.
