About Us:

Sarla Aviation is not just an aerospace startup; we are pioneers in the sky, dedicated to revolutionizing urban air mobility with our innovative Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (EVTOL) aircraft. Join us in our quest to transform the future of flight, driven by a relentless passion for sustainable transportation solutions. As part of our team, you will not just take on challenges; you will push the boundaries of engineering, technology, and customer experience, working towards something that has never been.

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior M&P engineer to join our Airframe team. As the first M&P engineer, you will play a critical role in defining, validating, and supporting the materials and processes used across our eVTOL programs. From material selection and testing to supplier evaluation and certification support, you will establish foundational practices that ensure safety, performance, and compliance. You will be the go-to expert for materials, working closely with design, manufacturing, and regulatory teams across multiple aircraft platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead material characterization, testing, and material specification development.
  • Create test plans, evaluate data, author technical reports, and identify further testing/development needs.
  • Develop internal process specifications to ensure process repeatability and conformity.
  • Liaise with Design, Stress, and Manufacturing Engineers with material and hardware selection.
  • Evaluate design risks from corrosion and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Oversee material testing at internal and external labs.
  • Evaluate suppliers to ensure they meet specification requirements and design intent.
  • Collaborate with regulatory teams to generate compliance data for structural materials and special processes.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D., M.E./M.Tech or B.E./B.Tech degree in Materials, Aerospace, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in aerospace materials and processes.
  • Broad expertise in metallics, composites, polymers, adhesives, fasteners, and failure modes.
  • Strong knowledge of standard test methods and ability to analyze and interpret results.
  • Proven experience in material selection, testing, qualification, and support during builds.
  • Deep understanding of aerospace manufacturing methods for both metallic and composite structures or at least one of these disciplines.
  • Experience in analyzing and dispositioning non-conformances.
  • Familiarity with DGCA / EASA / FAA certification requirements for aircraft structures and materials.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset — ability to work in a startup environment and build from scratch.
