About Sarla Aviation:
Sarla Aviation is at the forefront of revolutionizing urban air mobility with its cutting-edge eVTOL (electric Vertical Take-off and Landing) aircraft featuring innovative tilt-rotor technology. Sarla Aviation, a pioneer in the development of sustainable, efficient, and safe air transportation systems, is dedicated to influencing the future of aviation. We are seeking a skilled and driven EWIS Lead to join our expanding engineering team and contribute to the success of our eVTOL program.
Job Summary:
The EWIS Lead is responsible for the end-to-end design, development, integration, and certification support of the Electrical Wiring Interconnection System (EWIS) for aviation platforms. This role ensures compliance with AS50881, applicable airworthiness standards, and program-specific electrical safety requirements. The EWIS Lead will own EWIS architecture, wire and cable selection, capital harness design, electrical load analysis, and coordination with multidisciplinary teams through the full product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own and define the complete EWIS architecture for the aircraft, including power distribution, signal routing, grounding, bonding, shielding, and segregation philosophy across LV, HV, RF, and data systems.
- Lead the development of wiring layouts, interconnection diagrams, and harness architectures in compliance with AS50881, FAA/EASA EWIS guidance, and applicable aerospace standards.
- Architect and manage capital harness design, including top-level harness definition, decomposition into sub-harnesses, interface control, and installation strategy.
- Create, review, and approve harness drawings, wire lists, connector pinouts, back shell selections, splices, terminations, and associated manufacturing documentation.
- Ensure EWIS designs meet requirements for manufacturability, inspectability, maintainability, serviceability, and installation feasibility across prototype and production builds.
- Select and approve wires, cables, connectors, contacts, shielding, and protective components based on electrical performance, environmental exposure, mechanical loads, and lifecycle requirements.
- Establish and enforce standardization of EWIS components, derating practices, and parts lists in alignment with aerospace qualification and supply-chain robustness.
- Perform, validate, and approve electrical load analysis, including continuous and intermittent loads, wire sizing, current-carrying capacity, voltage drop, thermal limits, and circuit protection sizing.
- Support aircraft-level power budget development and contribute to system-level electrical, safety, and redundancy analyses.
- Ensure full EWIS compliance throughout the development lifecycle, supporting certification, conformity inspections, audits, and program design reviews.
- Generate, review, and maintain EWIS compliance documentation, analyses, and reports required for certification and internal governance.
- Coordinate closely with avionics, propulsion, flight controls, structures, safety, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless EWIS integration.
- Provide hands-on technical support during installation, inspection, testing, troubleshooting, rework, and flight-test phases.
- Act as the technical authority for EWIS-related issues, providing guidance to production, quality, and maintenance teams.
- Lead, mentor, and develop EWIS and electrical design engineers, including technical reviews, design approvals, and change management.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s/master's degree in electrical / Electronics / Avionics Engineering or equivalent.
Experience:
- 8+ years of experience in aviation EWIS design, preferably on aircraft, helicopters, UAVs, or eVTOL platforms.
- Proven experience as a lead and owner of aircraft EWIS architecture and harness systems.
Technical Skills:
- Strong working knowledge of AS50881 and aviation EWIS best practices.
- Hands-on experience in:
- Capital harness design
- Wire and cable selection
- Electrical load calculation and wire sizing
- Circuit protection and power distribution
- Proficiency in EWIS CAD tools (e.g., CATIA, Capital Harness, Zuken E3, or equivalent).
- Solid understanding of EMI/EMC, grounding, bonding, and lightning protection concepts.
- Familiarity with high-voltage (400–800V) electric propulsion architectures for aerospace.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience supporting certification programs (FAA / EASA / military or special condition aircraft).
- Familiarity with DO-160 environmental requirements as they relate to wiring.
- Experience in prototype build, flight test, and production transition.
- Knowledge of high-voltage systems (preferred for eVTOL / electric aircraft).
- Hands-on, problem-solving mindset
