About Sarla Aviation:
Sarla Aviation is an Indian aerospace company developing Shunya, an electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft designed for urban and regional air mobility. As an early-stage program, we operate at the intersection of startup agility and aerospace rigor, where core engineering decisions are still being shaped. This creates a unique environment where even early-career contributors can make meaningful, program-level impact.
About the Role:
We are looking for a motivated Systems Engineering Intern who is eager to contribute to both systems engineering activities and engineering tool automation within a fast-paced aerospace program.
This role sits within the Systems Engineering team and offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of systems engineering and digital toolchains. You will develop automation solutions that enhance engineering productivity while also supporting the broader systems engineering team in developing and maintaining aircraft-level requirements, traceability, and system integration activities.
This is a hands-on role where your work will directly support the development of a certifiable eVTOL aircraft, contributing to both engineering efficiency and core system development efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
Contribute to the development of aircraft-level requirements, traceability structures, and system engineering artifacts.
Support systems engineers in requirements management, change tracking, and verification planning activities.
Develop and enhance Polarion ALM workflows, extensions, and automations to streamline requirements and V&V processes.
Assist in Teamcenter integration and configuration activities, including data structures, BOM handling, and workflow improvements.
Build traceability dashboards and data-quality reports to support requirements coverage, validation status, and impact analysis.
Develop automation scripts, REST API integrations, and ETL pipelines to improve data flow across engineering tools.
Implement CI checks and validation tools to ensure correctness and completeness of engineering artefacts.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (systems, design, avionics, structures, propulsion etc.) to understand system-level workflows and data needs.
Document solutions clearly, including design intent, usage guidelines, and limitations, to support long-term maintainability.
Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and team standups within a regulated engineering program.
Deliver a final technical demo and presentation summarizing your contributions and impact.
Typical Qualifications:
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
Basic understanding of systems engineering concepts such as requirements traceability, V-model, configuration management, and system lifecycle.
Familiarity with requirements management tools such as Polarion, DOORS, or similar platforms.
Exposure to PLM tools (e.g., Teamcenter) and basic data structures like items, revisions, and BOMs is a plus.
Proficiency in at least one programming/scripting language: Python, JavaScript, or Java.
Familiarity with Git version control and basic software development practices.
Strong problem-solving ability and willingness to learn in a fast-paced engineering environment.
Good communication skills with the ability to document technical work effectively.
Preferred Skills:
These are not mandatory but will help align candidates with specific project areas:
Exposure to MBSE tools (Cameo, MagicDraw) or SysML modeling.
Familiarity with MATLAB/Simulink or engineering analysis tools.
Experience with REST APIs, automation workflows, or ETL pipelines.
Knowledge of data formats such as XML, JSON, XSLT, and YAML.
Exposure to tools such as JIRA, Confluence, GitLab, or Azure DevOps.
Awareness of engineering data exchange standards like ReqIF or OSLC.
Prior internship, academic project, or open-source contribution involving engineering tools, automation, or systems workflows.
Basic familiarity with aerospace or regulated development standards (e.g., ARP4754A, DO-178C).
